There were several highlights during March, but the ones that stand out are:
5 March:
We found tracks of the York pride early morning close to Pondoro Camp and while I was busy following the tracks on foot I heard impala alarm calls not far away. I raced back to the vehicle as I got in Shaun radioed informing me that the lions had just killed an impala very close to his vehicle.
6 March:
We found Mazinyo and Big Boy, the 2 territorial males of the York pride, lying next to the Olifants road during the morning safari when their 3 sons came to join them. Mazinyo was not in the best of moods and had a short but terrifying scuffle with his one son.
12-15 March:
We saw the York pride feeding on a giraffe carcass close to the Olifants river. There was a lot of interaction between the lions as they were fighting over the best portions and this provided very good photo opportunities.
27 March:
We came across a baby giraffe of only a few minutes old during the afternoon safari. It was still trying to take its 1st steps in a new and dangerous world. A very special sighting for me.
30 March:
We saw the Singwe pride feeding on a waterbuck carcass
Congratulations to Abigail Wiggen and Robert Mullen for choosing Pondoro to celebrate their 10th anniversary together.
