The biggest news during June was the arrival of 2 big male cheetahs. They were spotted 11 times during the month providing incredible photo opportunities of this rare and endangered cat.
A splinter group of the Olifants River pride was also seen regularly. They are not so familiar with the vehicles yet and has duly been named the Kajima pride which is Zulu for running fast. Over time they will definitely relax and by the end of the month we had some really good sightings of them. It is really good news to have another pride around and because this group consists of only 3 individuals they don't walk as far as a larger group would and they seem to like the area close to Pondoro camp.

We also saw lions feeding on giraffe twice, zebra twice and waterbuck and warthog.

Sightings of the month:

In an industry dominated by the Big 5 one must never forget about the small things and it often is the information given and time taken at the smaller animals that defines a guests experience. On the 6th of June we saw a large spotted genet catching a mouse and taking it up a tree where it devoured the whole mouse.

On the 16th the York pride dug a warthog out of its burrow. Only the 3½ year old male was still feeding when Big Boy, the dominant male, arrived. Big Boy promptly chased the younger male off and finished the kill off right next to the vehicle.

Guests saw how a herd of elephants chase 6 buffalo bulls away from Nyari dam.

All the cheetah sightings.
