The big news for February was the arrival of 4 newborn lion cubs.
They were 1st seen at Pride Rock on the 19th of February and were probably only about 2-3 weeks old at the time. A female called Noengu Mafazi is the proud mother and this is her 1st litter. We were extremely lucky as she was completely relaxed in the presence of our vehicle and it is indeed a rarity to see lion cubs this young as they are normally hidden away in very thick bush. Shaun managed to get a video of the sighting.
Please visit the Pondoro blog to see the video.
As always the lion sightings were good and we saw lions feeding on zebra and wildebeest. (See video) The 2 big male lions were also seen feeding on a buffalo on the 5th of February and feeding on a kudu on the 20th.
Elephants arrived in great numbers and at one stage we probably had more than 200 elephants walking around our traversing area. Elephants were also seen swimming several times. (See video)

Several breeding herds of 20-40 elephants were seen regularly and it was as always a joy to watch the babies playing and chasing each other.

On the 19th of February during the morning drive guests experienced the rare sight of a completely relaxed herd lying down and resting in the shade right next to the vehicle. (See video)
On the 14th of February guests saw 2 giraffe bulls fighting at Nguluve South and they were astounded when one was knocked down. He was unable to get up and eventually died from the blow.
